Common questions
What happens after I send an enquiry?
We acknowledge it, ordinarily within one working day, and run a conflict check. If we can act, we arrange a first conversation to understand the matter and tell you plainly how we would approach it.
How are fees charged?
Professional fees are determined in accordance with the Advocates Act and the Advocates (Remuneration and Taxation of Costs) Regulations, having regard to the nature, complexity, urgency and value of the matter. You receive a written fee estimate before substantial work begins. Disbursements such as court filing fees, registration fees and stamp duty are separate and are disclosed in advance where practicable. Fees are exclusive of VAT.
What should I bring to a first meeting?
Your identification, any contracts, letters, court documents or notices relating to the matter, and a short timeline of events in your own words. Copies are fine to begin with.
Can I send documents by WhatsApp or email?
Yes, once we have confirmed that no conflict of interest exists and have agreed to act for you. Until then, a short description of the matter is enough.
Do you handle matters outside Kampala or outside Uganda?
Our office is in Kampala and our practice is principally concerned with Ugandan law. We take instructions from clients across Uganda and abroad. Where a matter needs advice under the law of another country, we can, with your approval, identify and coordinate suitably qualified correspondent counsel.
Is my information confidential?
Yes. We preserve the confidentiality of information obtained in the course of an engagement, protect privileged communications and handle personal data in accordance with the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019. Our privacy notice explains how enquiry details are used.
